Tsavo West National Park

Adjacent to Tsavo East, forming one of the world's largest protected wilderness areas. Tsavo West, established in 1948, is famous for its dramatic scenery, Mzima Springs, and the Shetani Lava Flow. The park has a storied history as part of the 'Man-Eaters of Tsavo' legend. The best time to visit is June-October, January-February. By road: From Nairobi or Mombasa. By air: Several airstrips available.

The park features rugged terrain, volcanic hills, lava flows, springs, and riverine forests. Wildlife includes elephants, rhinos, hippos, lions, leopards, and diverse birdlife. Game drives are excellent for scenic and wildlife viewing. Points of interest include Mzima Springs, Shetani Lava Flow, and Chaimu Crater. The park is a key area for black rhino conservation.
