Lies to the east of the Nairobi – Mombasa highway, equidistant between Nairobi and Mombasa. Established in 1948, Tsavo East is one of the oldest and largest parks in Kenya. It is known for its red elephants and the Yatta Plateau, the world's longest lava flow. The best time to visit is June-October, January-February. By road: Accessible from Nairobi or Mombasa. By air: Several airstrips in the park.
The park features semi-arid plains, savannah, and the Galana River. Wildlife includes elephants, lions, leopards, cheetahs, buffaloes, and diverse birdlife. Game drives are best for elephant and predator sightings. Points of interest include the Yatta Plateau, Lugard Falls, and Aruba Dam. The park is also known for its historical 'Man-Eaters of Tsavo' lions.
