Located in central Kenya, about 140km northwest of Nairobi. Lake Nakuru National Park was established in 1961 and is famous for its large flocks of flamingos and as a sanctuary for rhinos. The park has played a key role in the conservation of endangered species. The best time to visit is June-March. By road: 3-hour drive from Nairobi. By air: Naishi airstrip inside the park.
The park features acacia woodlands, grasslands, and the alkaline Lake Nakuru, with rocky escarpments and euphorbia forests. Wildlife includes flamingos, pelicans, rhinos, giraffes, lions, leopards, and diverse birdlife. Game drives are excellent for bird watching and rhino sightings. Points of interest include Baboon Cliff, Makalia Falls, and Lake Nakuru. The park is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and a vital rhino sanctuary.
