Eastern Rwanda, bordering Tanzania. Established in 1934, Akagera is Rwanda's only savannah park and is known for its successful reintroduction of lions and rhinos. The best time to visit is June-September. By road: 2.5 hours from Kigali.

The park features savannah, woodland, wetlands, and lakes. Wildlife includes lions, elephants, buffaloes, giraffes, zebras, hippos, crocodiles, and over 500 bird species.
